In her attempt to turn "this is how it was meant to be" into "this is how I chose it to be," Mathilde decides to take a trip and, barely realizing it, finds herself in Crete.
There she meets the Captain, a long-suffering, knowledgeable, and patient philosopher who teaches her that the only great truth is the truth we discover on our own. Mathilde confronts the fact that she allowed her life to become an accident, refusing the possibility of choice.
She decides to choose the "right enemy" and stop blaming others for not allowing her to see what she fears to confront. She wants to finally learn to fly. But first, she must learn to walk.
And the first step is to understand that "he who does not obey himself is governed by others." Mathilde discovers the "I" before it becomes the "We" with Hector of her life, amidst a love that is more than the yearning of two people to possess one another...
