The active ingredient of Glizigen is glycyrrhizic acid, which is particularly effective in the local treatment of human papillomavirus, cold sores, genital herpes, recurrent simple herpes, shingles, condyloma acuminatum, and common warts.

Glycyrrhizic acid has been proposed as an antiviral agent against various viruses because it acts (in vitro and in vivo) by preventing the replication of DNA and RNA viruses (shingles, HIV, influenza type A and B, herpes simplex virus type 1 and 2, hepatitis B and C among others). Clinical studies conducted on patients with infections from different types of human papillomavirus indicate its effectiveness.
