Description

Description

The FIX brewery building on Syggrou Avenue represented the architectural modernity of post-war Athens and the productive dynamics of an economy aimed at development. Both found themselves caught in the throes of decline at the end of the 20th century, when the salvation of the building, signed by Takis Zenetos and Margarita Apostolidis, became the subject of mobilization by many architects.

This album discusses its history, from the initial function of FIX, a modern building and ideal in the semiotics of architectural perception, to today when it houses the National Museum of Contemporary Art. It is a space that embodies a multi-dimensional, contradictory, and fascinating history of productive and architectural transformations through its ongoing changes and the company's history over the years.

The interest of the book lies in this anatomical depth and the effort to reveal over time FIX / EMST through the stratification of its constant change. The history of FIX beer is long, and Architecture has always been a very important advertising tool for the company. The author highlights the power of both Architecture and the FIX company.

The network of factories, the machinery, the advertising, and the modernization interventions by Zenetos and Apostolidis are analyzed. An album with rich archival and photographic material, the result of long-term research, that captures the history of a landmark building in modern Greek history.

Dora Theodoropoulou was born in Athens. She is a Civil Engineer Architect, a graduate of the Department of Architects of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She continued her postgraduate studies at the National Technical University of Athens and in 2017 she was awarded a Doctorate from the School of Architects of the National Technical University of Athens. She has collaborated with architectural firms in Athens and Rome for the implementation of private and public projects, and has participated, winning distinctions, in architectural competitions.
