My goal was to convey the words of Epicurus and his students to today’s free-thinking individuals, to the scientist, to the educated, but also to the ordinary person who is not satisfied with the misery of everyday life and seeks to escape the herd, searching for a spiritual oasis of happiness.
This is also the reason why I contrast in this book the life of folly and empty talk with the life of wisdom and Epicurean philosophy. The core of the book, of course, is the wise opinions (doctrines) of Epicurus and his followers.
I hope these phrases resonate with the mind and heart of every reader, just as they did with me, encouraging me to transcribe them into this small book...
The Epicurean philosophy is the unifying foundation of all the main characteristics of modern secular Humanism, which are naturalism, philanthropy, the ethical philosophy based on the value of each individual due to their human nature, the freedom of choice that includes the freedom of religious expression, justice as a social contract, quality of life and the happiness of all people as humanity's primary goal.
