Description

"History is written by the victors and the powerful," the saying goes, but the case of Greek History in the 1940s is a striking exception to this rule. The communists of Greece, decisively defeated in their three attempts to violently seize power and impose a red fascist dictatorship, managed to write and impose a fictional narrative as history. With method, persistence, and the help of hundreds of biased leftist historians, the events of the period were altered, beautified, some were silenced, and others were distorted or completely reversed, so that their side always appears as the only patriotic, benevolent actor and the victim!

One of the most tragic episodes of that period, the abduction of thousands of Greek children aged 3-16 by the communists in 1947-'49 during the Insurgency of 1946-'49, the third and most criminal attempt to seize power which was also combined with the secession of Macedonia to be included in the planned "Federal People's Republic of Macedonia," did not escape distortion either.
A reaction of families living in villages where their children were at risk of the same fate, one day ending up behind the Iron Curtain, was to flee to the cities or send their children to the Child Cities created by the Ministry of Welfare to host these children. However, the communist version of events dubbed the abduction as Child Rescue, and the Child Cities of the Greek government as Frederica's Labor Camps.

The introduction of the name of the then queen into the history of the events and the overemphasis on her role had two goals. First, revenge through tarnishing her memory, because she was indeed a very significant opponent of the communists and their plans in 1946-'49. Second, the insidious attraction of some to the communist writing of history due to their anti-monarchist political choices.

The author, with the help of dozens of corroborated testimonies from victims of the abduction from Greece and their countries of settlement, other participants in the events, as well as extensive research of relevant literature from both sides, presents a comprehensive and objective picture of the abduction, the events that followed the settlement of Greek children behind the Iron Curtain, and their fate. The book ends with a realistic depiction of the operation of the Child Cities, through the testimonies of people who lived in them, so that the reader can form their own opinion on whether for young children up to 12 years old they were boarding schools or camps of monarchist praetorians.
