Do values exist in themselves or do they emerge from human existence? The attitude adopted in this book goes beyond axiological subjectivisms and objectivisms, favoring the option of the objectification of values: they certainly respond to existential necessities, but as soon as they are projected, as aspirations, against a backdrop of objectivity, they acquire a dynamic that triggers their irradiation towards the consciousness upon which they reflect.

It is therefore only natural that this consciousness responds to their call by reaching towards them in a movement that obeys strict rules. In addition to strictly ontological values, which have already been the subject of his previous research, the author distinguishes epistemological, cultural, and praxeological values.

His attention focuses here on these last three orders of values that govern respectively intellectual, creative, and practical activity. These investigations are situated within the framework of a philosophy centered on the notion of kairicity.
