From 1868 until his death in 1898, sometimes as a revolutionary, sometimes as a negotiator, as a politician, and other times as a publisher and editor of a newspaper, Konstantinos K. Mitsotakis emerges as one of the main figures of the Cretan scene. He is one of the protagonists of the period, from the Treaty of Chania (1878) onwards, when the political life in Crete begins to take shape.
He is the political leader who significantly influences the political events with the founding of the 'Liberal Party' (1878); he is the man who 'manipulates' the young lawyer Eleftherios Venizelos politically (promoting him to his parliamentary position) and entrusts him with the newspaper 'Lefka Ori', as he foresees that he will chart an important course in the future.
