The literary work of Saint Athanasius Patelarou, Metropolitan of Thessaloniki (1630-1646) and Ecumenical Patriarch, remained hidden and unknown for four centuries.
This critical edition, edited by Archimandrite Meletios Anetakis, includes facing pages with the original text of the one hundred fifty (150) psalms of David and their translation into the colloquial language of the time of Saint Athanasius, in the Cretan dialect of his childhood and teenage years, since the common modern Greek language had not yet been formed, which dominated throughout Greece after 1821 based on the Peloponnesian and Athenian linguistic idioms.
