Description

Description

This manual kaleidoscopically focuses on specific technical and functional aspects of Textual Criticism; on one hand, it provides a comprehensive list where the main abbreviations, technical terms, and other critical symbols of the science of Criticism are recorded and interpreted, and on the other hand, it presents sample readings (with accompanying explanatory comments) for the three types of annotations found in critical editions of texts, namely Source Annotation, Critical Annotation, and Annotation of Parallel Passages.

Additionally, the manual includes a brief historical overview of Textual Criticism (with references to stemmatic theory and the stem of codices), as well as indicative further bibliography. In this regard, the aim of this manual is to provide a solid background of technical knowledge, which constitutes a necessary prerequisite for both understanding the process of text transmission and the accompanying web of processes of Criticism science, as well as for a comprehensive approach to ancient Greek and Latin written discourse.

In conclusion, this manual aspires to fill the existing bibliographic gap and to become a useful research tool for philologists, students of philology, and scholars of ancient texts of all kinds.
