The language of Homer is alive and present, ready to express any modern or future concept. This belief of mine led me fifteen years ago to translate the Homeric epics into modern Greek and recently into metrical translation, leaving most of the poet's words untranslated because we use and pronounce these same words today with the same meaning.
However, this belief of mine needed further confirmation in the form of a dictionary, in order to prove the truth of my words.
So, I attempted and I believe I achieved to the highest possible degree, to record all or almost all of the Homeric words that are used as they are in written and spoken language. I pleasantly discovered that today we speak and write 2,924 words of Homer with the same meaning and spelling as 5,000 years ago.
But the most amazing thing is that, beyond these words, the everyday language of the Greeks, despite the all-out attack by all kinds of underminers and destroyers, as ordered by the well-known anti-Greek foreign centers, has created and added more than 12,650 words, so that Greeks now speak and write over 15,600 words of Homeric origin.
This great truth, which is revealed for the first time to the public through this dictionary, justifies the furious attack launched daily by some members of parliament from the seats of the Parliament and by the mass media, regarding the optional teaching of ancient Greek or even their complete abolition, especially at a time when the largest universities of the most progressive and democratic countries introduce ancient Greek as an official subject to be taught in their universities. It is obvious that these domestic detractors want the young Greeks to be semi-literate and expendable to the invading new owners of national sovereignty.
