The popular Italian drink was named "Amaretto di Saronno" due to its origin from Saronno, Italy. It was first created in 1525 and has since been made with the same authentic recipe. Contrary to popular belief, Amaretto Disaronno is not made from almonds, but instead derives its flavors and aromas from nuts and apricots. More specifically, Amaretto consists of apricot oil, burnt sugar, and substances from 17 herbs and fruits. On the palate, it leaves aromas and flavors of marzipan and Battenberg cake. It is enjoyed as an aperitif with ice and lemon or orange juice and pairs ideally in cocktails.
