With the blessing and approval of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the consent of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, the first volume of the series "Interpretation of the Old Testament" has been published by the Apostolic Diakonia of the Church of Greece. This volume contains the first book of the Old Testament, Genesis, with translation, analysis, and commentary by the Very Reverend Archimandrite Ieremias Fountas, Professor at the School of Theology of the University of Athens.

The volume is divided into two parts; Part A (for the general public) includes text - translation - analysis. Part B (for theologians) contains the scientific, interpretative commentary, ".... written particularly for the beloved students of Theology at our Universities, who wish, as they tell me, to have a modern and concise comprehensive commentary on the Old Testament, based on the data of recent scientific years."

"According to our Orthodox theology, the subject of both the New and the Old Testament is Christ. The two Testaments are united by the Person of the Messiah, our Lord Jesus Christ." This first volume published is the beginning of a contemporary interpretative work on all the books of the Old Testament, which has indeed been lacking in our field.
