Lieutenant General and Army Inspector General Thomas Penzopoulos stated that: "he offered significant national services, working with zeal and selflessness. The characteristic of the man is that the motives of his struggle were not selfish. He is in every way a worthy Greek and deserves every support from the state for the services he has rendered. His reputation as a national fighter is known throughout Thessaly and Phthiotis."
Similar attestations were issued by Brigadier General Klemis Pylorof, Commander of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, and Major General Vasileios Vlachos, Commander of the B' Army Corps.
Even political parties such as the "Greek Rally" of Field Marshal Papagos made it known that "the full and unrestricted representation of Grigorios Sourlas' organization in the wider regions of Central Greece and Thessaly is legitimized by us."
However, despite the warm declarations of the state authorities and his informal proclamation as the political leader of the region, Sourlas maintained his dignity and independence. As he once said in a meeting with Papagos: "whatever I did, I did it for the country."
