The Battle of Lepanto took place on October 7, 1571, between the fleet of the Ottoman Empire and the fleet of the Holy League, consisting of the Papal States, Spain, and Venice, and has been included among the most significant events in human history.
In this famous naval battle that occurred in the waters of Lepanto, a titanic clash happened between Christianity and Islam, between the Cross and the Crescent. The Cross emerged victorious, thus preventing the penetration of the Ottoman Turks into Europe and the dominance of the Islamic religion over the entire Christian world.
Today, at the beginning of the third millennium AD, with the crescent moon threateningly casting its shadow over the cross, the achievement of the Battle of Lepanto seems more significant than ever.
