Through the judicious use of our courts' rich case law, the presenters of the 4th Conference of the EOD on the topic: "Poor exercise of parental responsibility and domestic violence," highlighted both classic cases of inadequate or abusive exercise of custody over minors, such as physical disabilities, parental absences, lifestyles that jeopardize the children's mental well-being, extreme religious beliefs, as well as less developed forms of poor parental responsibility, such as problematic interactions of the children either chosen by themselves or imposed by the parents.
An analysis was made of the usual characteristics of a spouse/parent who commits acts of domestic violence, and emphasis was placed on the frequent incidents of hindering the child's communication with the non-custodial parent.
