The book has been considered a classic work for many years. It makes this area of knowledge accessible even to those who are less familiar with the languages and works of antiquity.
The three most important surviving instructional writings of ancient literary theory are examined: Aristotle's "Poetics," Horace's "Ars poetica," and the treatise "On the Sublime" by Longinus the Pseudo, along with their main terms: the philosophical, unpolished "Poetics" of Aristotle from the 4th century BC, the rhythmic, written in a rather conversational tone "Ars poetica" of Horace (published in 14 AD), and the treatise "On the Sublime" of Pseudo-Longinus, intended for politicians and orators, from the 1st century AD.
The Greek edition includes relevant ancient texts as an appendix, with the permission of the author and the publisher.
