Description

Description

The prose writer Xenophon is primarily a historian. Within the framework of his peculiar versatility, he deals with issues of politics and economics. In politics, he has his preferences - he is fundamentally conservative, while in economics he is inventive - making suggestions for increasing the resources of the state so that it can meet the needs of collective life.

In this volume, we now attempt to complement what we did with Theodoros G. Mavropoulos’ work on 'The Education of Cyrus' - the volume containing this work covers volume IV of the Oxford editions - by providing the 'Opuscula' of volume V of the Oxford editions. Thus, our publishing house presents the 'Complete Works' of Xenophon.

The sober study of the political and economically focused works of Xenophon can be very beneficial. Undoubtedly, these are works that correspond to the data of an era that is significantly distant from ours with its differentiated elements. The differentiation of today's data, which more prominently highlight the political and economic perspectives of social life issues, does not render the Xenophontian perspective obsolete.

On the contrary, his 'pioneering' perspective serves as a catalyst for the comparison of homogeneous and uniform themes of social life, which have historically been at the center of current relevance. I hope that this volume will be recognized for its value by the intellectual community that follows and supports our endeavor.
