The Cross of St. Andrew, in the shape of an X, blue and on a white background, was the emblem of the Imperial Russian Navy. Under this flag, the Septinsular Republic was founded, the first truly free State in the history of modern Greece, and it was exactly this flag that Theodoros Kolokotronis raised when, in the early 19th century, he attempted his own great uprising against Ottoman rule in the Peloponnese.

A dominant figure in the political life of the Septinsular Republic was Ioannis Kapodistrias; and the Warlord of the Greeks from 1821 onwards was Kolokotronis. The two of them worked closely together to ensure that the newly reborn Greek State would achieve independence and prosperity, like the Phoenix rising from the ashes; the former was assassinated, while the latter was sentenced to death and narrowly escaped beheading.

This book presents the confrontation between these two heroic figures and the forces that have always sought to oppress the Greek people - so that it becomes clear to everyone that their struggle, up to this day, remains unjustified.
