Description & Specifications

The unprecedented success of the first volume of "The Empire of Constantinople," with the bold ideas we expressed regarding the poorly termed Byzantine history, allows us to joyfully present the second volume, which covers the long period from the successors of Justinian to the first conquest of the City by the Crusaders (1204).

During this long time period, the Empire gradually loses its Roman character and acquires a Greek form that becomes more pronounced in the final phase, which unfortunately concluded with the second conquest in 1453.

Our goal is not only to refer to the military and religious events but also to the emergence of new peoples that appear on the historical scene for the first time. Many of these peoples have disappeared over the passage of time, but all left some historical imprint. Some, however, continue their historical journey, having taken from the Empire of Constantinople the necessary guiding lights.

And something else that we consider important: throughout its long duration, the Empire presents many dark points and has a religious and spiritual aroma entirely different from our own. However, without this aroma that spread to the West and East, the modern world would not have its current form.

The Empire continues to exist in a thousand and one expressions both in the realm of the Christian world and in the realm of Islam. And not only as a religious presence but also as a secular presence, which constitutes a tremendous political and cultural heritage for modern humanity.
