For historians, the success in forming the National Liberation Front (EAM) during the resistance against Nazi occupation from 1941 to 1944 refers to the creation of conditions that had their roots in the attempt at collaboration among diverse political and social forces during the previous period.
For some researchers, studies have created the certainty that the Interwar period constitutes the starting point for initiating qualitative developments that later defined the course of the Greek social movement in the second half of the 20th century. We believe that the views of Papapanagiotou, stemming from his work, remain relevant due to the importance of the issue under discussion.
Indeed, with its strategy and tactics after 1934, the Greek labor movement, emerging from a phase of exclusion from reality, asserted choices that soon proved to be decisive due to their influence on the nation's and democracy's trajectory.
The impetus of the issues raised by Papapanagiotou's work prompted the research effort presented in this paper. It provides a stimulus for historians to explore issues such as the formation and evolution of the tactics of the Communist International and other international labor organizations against fascism, the democratic deficit and fascism in Greece during the Interwar period, perceptions of fascism by the Greek political and intellectual world, the KKE in the face of the fascist threat, attempts to implement the policy of the united front, and the anti-dictatorship front.
