In the third volume of his work "10 and a Decade of Political Divisions," Professor Thanasis Diamantopoulos examines the crucial decade of the 1930s, which largely prefigured subsequent developments. From the outset, it became clear that the effort made in the second half of the 1920s to heal the wounds of the National Schism would yield no results.

The conflict between Venizelists and anti-Venizelists would rediscover its former extreme violence, despite the rapprochement suggested by the common perception of the communist threat. A significant section of Venizelism – the so-called divergent Venizelism – would also turn against Venizelos. The political and military Venizelism would soon find themselves in opposition, with Venizelos at times pledging support from the latter.

And all of this before entering the period of the Metaxas regime. A regime with pronounced authoritarian elements, which nevertheless was not devoid of popular support. With several fascist characteristics, although not wholly fascist in nature, and a desire to highlight its cohesion or monolithism, while also experiencing internal divisions that permeated it.

Thanasis Diamantopoulos was born in Athens. He studied Law at the University of Athens, then Political Science and Public Law at the same institution, and Philosophy-Education-Psychology at the Faculty of Philosophy. Receiving successive scholarships, he pursued postgraduate studies and obtained a doctoral degree from the University of Sorbonne, while later conducting post-doctoral research at Oxford. He teaches at Panteion University and has taught at the Institute of Political Science in Lille. He is the author of 25 scientific and two literary works.
