The ancient Greeks developed all fields of culture, literature, and arts. They laid the foundation for the development of sciences, especially philosophy, and linked their name to the birth of democracy. The culture of ancient Greece formed the basis for modern Western civilization, and this is one of the main reasons why Greece is known worldwide. The ancient Greeks bequeathed to modern Greeks brilliant monuments of architecture and sculpture, which millions of tourists come to admire. Although Greeks feel very proud of this heritage – sometimes to the point of ancestor worship – they often consider Western Europeans superior and more "modern" and imitate foreign models and values.
