Description

The Developmental Language Disorder has been attracting increasing interest in recent years due to the particular challenges this disorder presents, as well as its relationship with the subsequent educational journey and psychosocial adjustment of children and adolescents.

The limited investigation of this specific developmental disorder within the Greek population results in the extraction of knowledge from clinical and research findings of corresponding studies in the international sphere, which, however, diverge from each other as they seem to be linked to the characteristics of each language system.

This collective volume, which includes chapters from a distinguished group of scientists, presents the main challenges related to issues of terminology, prevalence, diagnostic criteria, and heterogeneity. It highlights the need for systematic language assessment in children and presents psychometric tools used in our country for research or clinical purposes.

Modern research data regarding specific language deficits, as well as additional difficulties faced by children and adolescents with Developmental Language Disorder, are discussed. Furthermore, contemporary methodological approaches for clinical practice and intervention programs are proposed.

Finally, recent international research programs are described, focusing simultaneously on the practical implications of the findings for educational policy and clinical practice.

The collective volume "Developmental Language Disorder in Children and Adolescents: Issues of Delimitation, Assessment, and Intervention" is aimed at students, educators, specialists, and parents, and represents a systematic effort of recent years, with a synthetic orientation, which is hoped to contribute to the further delimitation and understanding of the scientific field of Developmental Language Disorder in childhood and adolescence in Greece.
