I have the BX5a, the first model of this series, which has minimal differences from the current D3, for almost 20 years.
To start, they have excellent build quality as they have suffered absolutely nothing with daily use, and at times at high volumes.
Regarding the sound, it is truly EXCELLENT. Crystal clear, colorless, it makes the work enjoyable and the listening experience delightful. No matter how much you push them, they do not distort or change frequency response.
With these characteristics, even a bad master sounds satisfactory. However, this is a double-edged sword, as you can easily hear the negatives in a mastering that sounds good on an average speaker.
Personally, I prefer their sound over the Rokit G5 for example, as the M-Audio is perfectly linear, while with the Rokit I feel there is a "fake" boost in the bass to cover the expected gaps of a 5-inch speaker.
In summary, this is by far the most value-for-money electronic device I have ever purchased in my life, especially in the field of sound. I don't know if it works for everyone, as the difference between "cinematic" sound with excessive bass and the constant noise that someone who does not work professionally with sound is used to is chaotic with such a speaker.
Also, even if someone unfamiliar with the field gets used to this kind of sound, most setups will seem unpleasant to them afterwards.
