This work is divided into three chapters. The first refers to the development of nationalism in the Balkans and highlights the decisive contribution of the political element in shaping the nation-states of the region. This interpretive framework is also useful in the case of the emergence of the new Slavo-Macedonian nation-state.
The second chapter records the politics of the two Great Western Powers, Britain and the United States, from 1944 to 1949 - the period during which the new state entity was formed and consolidated in Yugoslav Macedonia - and highlights the superiority of strategic interests as well as the element of bewilderment regarding the new developments in the national dimension.
The third chapter emphasizes the new Greek policy of 1991-92 and notes its inability to integrate into the new international framework and to align with the priorities and new perceptions of its Western partners and allies.
