The axiological dimension of language intersects with history and undergoes various re-significations. The creation of nation-states and its encounter with language defines a critical period of re-significations of this category. And the Balkan scene characteristically illustrates this linguistic phenomenology.

One can initially see what is often forgotten or downplayed by the naturalization of the relationship between the concepts of "nation" and "language," namely that these two concepts are not connected in a natural, genetic way.
