Giuseppe Ungaretti is the most renowned and beloved contemporary Italian poet in Greece. However, his essays and interviews remain largely unknown to the Greek public, with only a few exceptions.

This volume gathers four of his most important and characteristic texts on poetry. The first is dedicated to Cavafy and Ungaretti's visit to Greece. The second addresses the relationship between personal creation (and poetry in particular) and History. The third discusses the role of poetry throughout human history and its connections to the worship of the sacred.

Finally, the fourth refers to modern poetry, Italian literature, and the upheaval brought about by the generation of the Egyptian poet in our neighboring country. Inspired yet often difficult to understand due to their elliptical style, Ungaretti's essays and interviews frequently hold intriguing surprises for the reader.
