This book, which arose from the need to fill a gap in Greek literature, is the first translated and annotated edition in Greek of Cicero's dialogue On the Laws (De legibus), a dialogue that, apart from its philosophical content, provides significant information about the functioning of political, religious, and legal institutions in Rome during the Late Republic.

The messages and political ideas expressed by perhaps the greatest Roman thinker in this dialogue, as well as in his dialogue On the Republic (De re publica), are more relevant than ever, making their study beneficial, if not necessary.

This edition provides a text as reliable as possible, based on the most credible critical editions, with modifications where deemed necessary, and a translation that strives to remain faithful to the Latin original, in its terminology, style, and structure.

The introduction examines issues related to the dating of the dialogue and its writing conditions, its dramatic time and space, its characters, the models, sources, and originality, as well as the reception and tradition of the text.

The annotation addresses issues of text critique, stylistic and narrative technique, linguistic and factual elements, aiming to be as comprehensive as possible to meet the needs described above.
