This book is an attempt to explore domestic film production. In its two sections, “From Early Greek Cinema to the Mass Production Era” and “From the New to Contemporary Greek Cinema,” Greek cinema is presented and analyzed from as many perspectives as possible as a cultural-artistic phenomenon that reflects Greece's social, political, economic, and cultural journey.
The most significant feature of this volume is the variety of methodological approaches to Greek cinema, as the researchers participating in this publication come from different fields and academic disciplines, combining film studies with theoretical approaches from historiography, sociology, anthropology, urban studies, musicology, and gender studies.
Furthermore, it covers a wide range of mostly unexplored topics concerning Greek film production throughout its history and the reception of Greek films by the public.
