The study aims at what the author calls the transgressive person, that is, the person who struggles or is unable to confront reality, leading them to avoid it by transcending it.
The transcendence of emotions is examined with examples from artists such as Edward Albee and Ingmar Bergman, who, in different ways, transcended the difficult relationships they had with family members. Lastly, a particularly strong and interesting relationship between transcendence and explicit or implicit guilt is explored.
