This particular model from Audio-Technica is one of the least known from the company and at the same time, I believe, one of the best in its series and overall. I will be a little cynical at this point, but you see, the money that is "thrown" at the highly advertised and overpriced M50x goes to better and larger drivers in order to refresh the series that needed it the most: the closed-back A000X (without D) that now have the letter Z at the end.
Their sound is indescribable! I don't think you will find a better "connected" and at the same time deep bass that doesn't overshadow the mids, nor will you find a wider soundstage compared to other closed-back headphones, even below 1000€. The sound remains as neutral as possible from its source, the highs don't "ring" (as one would expect from headphones in this category, of course) but they don't "color" like it often happens with the more popular models from 2 well-known German companies.
Also, they have a very fast response! They reproduce details so well that in combination with a good amplifier, they can - in my opinion - be used for monitoring. In my ears, I don't find any difference in their resolution compared to specialized Studio headphones with a flat response like the M70x - after some EQ adjustments to remove the mild V-shape (or U shape, to be more precise) they have, obviously.
Finally, they are lightweight and comfortable even after hours of use, and if you change the pleather earpads they come with to velour ones (not included), you might feel an improvement in the soundstage, which, as in all quality closed-back headphones, is somewhat limited in comparison.
Negatives:
- They don't have a detachable or braided cable.
- They are not available in other colors.
- Their headband does not provide a good fit for smaller heads and is not suitable for all tastes.
- They are excessively expensive in Greece at the moment.
Το συγκεκριμένο μοντέλο της Audio-Technica είναι απ΄ τα λιγότερο γνωστά της εταιρίας και την ίδια στιγμή είναι, πιστεύω, ένα απ΄ τα καλύτερα της μέσα στην ίδια την σειρά του αλλά και γενικότερα.
Θα γίνω λίγο κυνικός σε αυτό το σημείο αλλά, βλέπετε, τα λεφτά που «πετιούνται» στα πολυδιαφημισμένα και υπερεκτιμημένα για την τιμή τους M50x πάνε σε καλύτερους και μεγαλύτερους drivers ώστε να ανανεωθεί η σειρά που το είχε περισσότερο ανάγκη: τα κλειστού τύπου A000X (χωρίς D) που τώρα πλέον φέρουν στο τέλος το γράμμα Z.
Ο ήχος τους δεν περιγράφεται! Δεν νομίζω πως θα βρείτε πιο καλά «δεμένο» και συνάμα βαθύ μπάσο που να MHN καλύπτει τα μεσαία ούτε θα βρείτε ευρύτερο soundstage σε σχέση με άλλα closed-back ακουστικά, ακόμη και κάτω των 1000€.
Ο ήχος παραμένει όσο πιο ουδέτερος γίνεται απ΄ την πηγή του, τα ψηλά δεν «κουδουνίζουν» (όπως θα περίμενε κανείς από ακουστικά αυτής της κατηγορίας, βεβαίως) αλλά ούτε «χρωματίζονται» όπως συμβαίνει συχνά στα δημοφιλέστερα μοντέλα 2 γνωστών γερμανικών εταιριών.
Επίσης, έχουν ταχύτατη ανταπόκριση! Αποδίδουν την λεπτομέρεια τόσο καλά που σε συνεργασία με ένα καλό amplifier μπορούν -κατά τη γνώμη μου- να χρησιμοποιηθούν και για monitoring. Στα δικά μου αυτιά δεν βρίσκω διαφορά στο resolution τους σε σχέση με εξειδικευμένα Studio ακουστικά με flat response όπως τα M70x - μετά από μερικές επεμβάσεις μέσω EQ ώστε να αφαιρεθεί το ήπιο V-shape (ή U σωστότερα) που διαθέτουν, προφανώς.
Τέλος, είναι ελαφριά και ξεκούραστα μετά από ώρες χρήσης ενώ αν αλλάξετε τα μαξιλαράκια από τα pleather που διαθέτουν σε velour (δεν συμπεριλαμβάνονται) ίσως να αισθανθείτε και μια βελτίωση στο soundstage το οποίο, όπως σε όλα τα ποιοτικά κλειστού τύπου ακουστικά, είναι κάπως περιορισμένο συγκριτικά.
Αρνητικά:
- Δεν έχουν αποσπώμενο ή πλεκτό καλώδιο.
- Δεν διατίθενται σε άλλα χρώματα.
- To στεφάνι τους δεν προσφέρει καλό κράτημα σε μικρότερα κεφάλια και δεν είναι για όλα τα γούστα.
- Υπερβολικά ακριβά στην Ελλάδα αυτή τη στιγμή.
