This book consists of nine chapters. The first chapter is introductory and provides general information about Geophysics, the Earth, and its relationship with the solar system. The second chapter is about the structure and composition of the Earth's interior, while the third chapter includes Geodynamics. The fourth chapter focuses on the heat of the Earth's interior, and the fifth chapter on natural radioactivity and its use in radiometric dating methods. The two main dynamic fields of the Earth, the gravitational field and the magnetic field, are presented in the sixth and seventh chapters, respectively. The eighth chapter presents the basic seismic methods for studying the structure of the Earth's interior, which are among the main geophysical methods applied for this purpose. Finally, the ninth chapter develops various important topics of geophysical techniques and the application of special geophysical methods.
The book is published with the main goal of being used as a university-level textbook, covering the material taught to undergraduate and graduate students of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and other universities in the country. However, an effort has been made to include topics of broader theoretical and practical interest in its content, so that it can be utilized by scientists professionally involved in general geophysical issues (geophysicists, geologists, geodesists, engineers, etc.). At the end of each chapter, references to recent publications in international journals and books are included to facilitate readers interested in further study of geophysical topics.
