The engagement with December 1944 begins from the combination of a continuous interest in the period, the expansion of scientific discourse with new perspectives, methodological tools, documentation, and questions, along with the strong resistance posed by some of the initial analyses.
The objectives of this book at hand are to "capture" the current research – or at least a part of it – regarding the historical context, characteristics, different facets, and consequences of the conflict; the osmosis of methodological and interpretative trends; and the exploration of the possibility of formulating new compositions and interpretation frameworks.
The book seeks the multiple stakes of December, examines the role played by party choices and the military factor, investigates different aspects of the international dimension of the December events, assesses the experience of the conflict at the local level – in the capital and the provinces – and, finally, highlights its representations in historiography, literature, and public discourse in contemporary Greece.
