Description

The Rega Planar 3 Gloss White is a high-fidelity (Hi-Fi) manual belt-drive turntable, designed and handcrafted in the United Kingdom. It is an evolution of Rega’s iconic model, featuring an MDF plinth with an acrylic laminate and a Gloss White lacquer finish, along with Double Brace Technology for maximum rigidity at high-stress points. It is equipped with the handcrafted RB330 tonearm, which incorporates low-friction bearings and a redesigned tube to minimise resonance. The turntable features a 12 mm “Optiwhite” float glass platter, a quiet 24 V low-noise motor, and the option to upgrade with the external Rega Neo PSU.

Basic Features

  • Operating Type: Manual
  • Drive System: Belt drive with EBLT precision belt
  • Motor: Quiet, low-noise, low-vibration 24V motor
  • Playback Speeds: 33 1/3 and 45 RPM (manual change)
  • Plinth Material: Acrylic-laminated MDF with Double Brace technology
  • Platter: 12 mm-thick Optiwhite float glass with polished edge
  • Tonearm: Hand-assembled, straight Rega RB330 9" tonearm
  • Signal Outputs: Built-in high-quality RCA signal cable
  • Feet: 3x redesigned anti-vibration damping feet
  • Included Accessories: Acrylic dust cover
  • Dimensions (with cover closed): 447 x 360 x 117 mm
  • Weight: 6.0 kg
  • Colour: Gloss White

Chassis Design & Double Brace Technology

The Rega Planar 3 is built on the principles of low mass and high rigidity. Its plinth is made of acrylic-laminated MDF with a Gloss White finish and reinforced with Double Brace Technology. A phenolic resin bridge is fitted to the top and bottom of the plinth, between the tonearm mount and the central bearing, creating a rigid structure that prevents energy absorption and unwanted resonance.

Rega RB330 Tonearm & High-Precision Bearing

The turntable features the handcrafted 9-inch Rega RB330 tonearm, designed using 3D CAD/CAM technology. The tonearm tube has a redesigned mass distribution to reduce stress points and incorporates zero-tolerance bearings (ultra-low friction bearings) with exceptionally low friction on both the horizontal and vertical axes. It also features an integrated grounding cable clamp and an improved anti-skating adjustment mechanism.

24V Motor & 12 mm Optiwhite Glass Platter

Motion is transmitted via the advanced EBLT belt by a quiet 24V motor. The motor is paired with a new control board (PCB) to minimize vibration and is mounted in a redesigned brass bearing housing with an improved fit. The platter is made from 12 mm-thick "Optiwhite" float glass, manufactured with greater precision to provide stable rotational inertia.

Upgrade Options & Equipment

The Planar 3 can be connected to the external Rega Neo PSU power supply (sold separately), which uses a DSP generator to deliver perfectly stable power to the motor and allows electronic speed switching between 33 1/3 and 45 RPM. The package includes an acrylic dust cover and an integrated low-capacitance RCA connection cable.

Amazing machine. It's worth its money. If you get such a turntable, I would advise you to do a proper setup, and by that, I mean it is necessary to get an electronic scale in order to adjust the tracking force (the weight that the needle will apply on the record) as well as an anti-skating disc to properly adjust the anti-skating. The placement/calling of the needle should also be adjusted correctly, which is done with a paper/drawing included in the packaging. In general, the above tools are necessary for all corresponding turntables. I combined mine with the NAD C338 amplifier and the Klipsch R-820 F speakers after a recommendation from the store (the owner was perfectly knowledgeable), and the result is excellent! The turntable is entry level, but believe me, it will fully satisfy you.

In its category, there is no other. The ultimate turntable. Legendary manufacturer, handmade, 24v silent motor, an arm that can be worn on even more expensive turntables of other companies, etc. Incredible musicality, rhythm performance.
I have paired it with the AT540ml after a recommendation from the store and I have been more than satisfied.

When in the 80s I bought my first rega planar 3, I was amazed by the sound that this simple turntable produced, which made me fall in love with vinyl records and build a large record collection. Over the years, the rega was replaced by other turntables of higher value. I thought it was just my imagination that something was always not quite right. The years passed, a family was formed, and the only thing that remained since then was the record collection. At some point, I decided to introduce my children to the magic of the old good analog sound. With joy, I realized that the old good rega planar 3 is being produced upgraded. I brought it home, put on the English copy of Jethro Tull's "Stand Up," and the feeling was the same, if not better, than in the distant 80s. I believe that I fulfilled my duty towards my children and music through the rega
