In the first volume of this book, by looking back at the last centuries of Byzantium, I attempted to find the roots, the origins of Modern Hellenism and to follow its evolutionary course towards its formation, especially during the 14th and 15th centuries, up to the fall of Constantinople (1453) and Trebizond (1461).
Now in this volume, as well as in the third, I examine the period that extends from those remarkable historical points to the submission of Crete to the Turks (1453 - 1669), a unit both from a political and a cultural perspective.
