Peychaud’s is one of the most well-known and commercially successful bitters worldwide. However, its recipe remains a secret known to very few. It was initially created as a tonic medicine by pharmacist Antoine Amedie Peychaud in the early 1800s in New Orleans, but it quickly gained many fans when they discovered how well it paired with their whiskey or brandy. Its flavor is sweet with light notes of cherry, clove, and nutmeg.
