The primary goal of the book is to serve as a brief practical guide in the study of the units and levels of linguistic analysis, based on which one can attempt a further investigation of linguistic problems.

At the same time, it aims to introduce certain classic theories of linguistics and, indirectly, the history of linguistics, as well as a basic contact with methodological issues.

From the primary goal arises the structure of the book into chapters corresponding to linguistic subsystems (phonological, morphological, syntactic, etc.). The chapters on pragmatics and sociolinguistics essentially challenge the logic of the previous ones, namely the logic of the autonomy of the individual aspects of language and their separation from their communicative and social context.

It is hoped that, despite the concise form of the text, in this way, the relativity and dialectics that govern scientific inquiry become apparent. This is also the aim of the exercises provided at the end of each chapter.
