Description

I fear that I am losing my senses. My sense of smell, my touch... they want to take those from me as well. They want to bury me in here just like they buried their useless minds.

“Camille Claudel is one of the few renowned witnesses to the brutality of the male world - possibly the most emblematic of her time. In her era, the flames of the Inquisition were no longer present - however, the persecution of women and the criminalization of their femininity naturally thrived (and, at different levels, still thrive). Camille Claudel wanted to be dramatically free and tragically ended up suspended: she was not recognized as an artist by her peers, was not loved as a woman by her lover, was not counted as a partner by her husband, and was not regarded as a human being by the society that confined her to asylums until the end of her life.

She offered her body, her talent, her love, the fruit of her womb to the male world - and the male world crushed her, punishing her exemplary for claiming just a little more human existence than he was willing to acknowledge.”

Thanassis Triaridis (from the preface of the edition)
