This book does not focus on the figure of Sophocles Venizelos with the older - and certainly outdated - perception of the "history of great men." Instead, it examines the political career of Sophocles Venizelos as a representative of a distinct component of the "bourgeois" political world and the liberal Center; a space that shaped developments and was called upon to respond to various social needs, international political pressures, and complex political stakes.
The relative absence of monographs on these issues - especially for the first decade after the Civil War - makes the research on the post-Civil War Center extremely interesting, both as a significant political family and as a field in which diverse socio-political pressures manifested that had formed during the interwar period but also during the rise of the EAM current and the reaction to it by the political system in the 1940s.
