The best Christmas cocktails for the New Year’s Eve party
The holiday season is approaching and we all want to impress our guests at the Christmas table.
So, apart from the classic festive delicacies, the most delicious melomakarona and the most buttery kourabiedes, on the night of the réveillon you can serve original festive cocktails.
Eggnog
The etymology of its name remains a mystery
Perhaps the world’s most popular Christmas cocktail, with roots dating back to the Middle Ages and established through the United States. The main and distinctive ingredient of its recipe, although there are hundreds of variations, is egg. When you drink it for the first time, it really makes you wonder: what was someone thinking when they decided it was a good idea to combine egg yolk, milk, and alcohol in one drink?
Ingredients:
- 12 eggs, separated into yolks and whites
- 200g sugar + 2 extra cups
- ½ cup water
- 1 liter heavy cream, whipped into whipped cream
- 1 liter whole milk, lukewarm
- 1 liter bourbon
- 250ml rum
- cinnamon for serving
Preparation:
You prepare the syrup by boiling the two cups of sugar with the half cup of water in a small saucepan. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Beat the egg whites in a mixer at high speed. Once the meringue forms soft peaks, slowly pour in the hot syrup in a very thin stream, so the egg whites are pasteurized. In a saucepan of boiling water, secure a large metal bowl to the rim and add the 200g sugar and the egg yolks. Beat with a whisk or hand mixer until the mixture turns pale and fluffy. At the same time, the yolks will also be pasteurized. Fold the yolk mixture into the meringue until combined. Incorporate the whipped cream, milk, bourbon, and rum. Serve the eggnog sprinkled with cinnamon.
Smoking Bishop
Ebenezer Scrooge’s favorite cocktail
Do you want to be transported to the Victorian era and experience a little of the atmosphere of Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol? Try the recipe for the drink that Scrooge clinks glasses with his clerk, Bob Cratchit, at the end of the story.
Ingredients:
- 750ml ruby port
- 750ml red, fruity wine
- 250ml water
- 100gr brown sugar
- A little chopped ginger
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
- ¼ tsp ground allspice
- 4 oranges
- 20 cloves
Preparation:
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Wash and dry the oranges. Stick five cloves into each orange. Place the oranges in a shallow baking tray and bake them lightly, for about one to one and a half hours. In a small saucepan, add the port, wine, water, sugar, and spices and simmer over low heat for about twenty minutes. Cut the baked oranges in half and squeeze them into the saucepan. Remove from the heat and serve in heatproof mugs.
Hot Buttered Rum
The most delicious answer to the cold
The first mention of this particular drink was made in 1937 in the best-selling novel "How to Mix Drinks or The Bon-vivant’s Companion", in which Jerry Thomas writes about a warm cocktail with rum from Jamaica, allspice and cloves, butter, and hot water. This drink kept New England warm back in the pre-war days and especially during the cold winter months.
Ingredients:
- 60ml rum
- 1 tsp butter mixture*
- 100ml hot water
- cinnamon and nutmeg for serving
Preparation:
Add the rum and butter mixture to a mug. Add the hot water and stir until the mixture is smooth. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and a little freshly grated nutmeg.
*To prepare the butter mixture, add the following, depending on the quantity:
- 1 part unsalted butter
- 1 part brown sugar
- 1 part white granulated sugar
- 2 parts vanilla ice cream
- Ground spices, preferably
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and once they are sufficiently combined, store the mixture in the refrigerator in a sealed container.
White Christmas Margarita
Why we always want Christmas to be white

- 240ml coconut water
- 240ml coconut drink
- 180ml coconut cream
- 180ml rum
- 180ml simple syrup*
- 1 tsp coconut extract
- rosemary and fresh cranberries for serving
