The Most Common Mistakes You Make with the Air Fryer

The air fryer or air fryer has become incredibly popular and beloved in recent years, as it can cook thousands of recipes easily, quickly, and healthily, without the addition of oil. However, while it is an extremely convenient and versatile appliance, there are several mistakes you may make that will affect cooking, maintenance, and the overall experience of the result!

Read some of them so you can always have exactly the tasty and healthy food you want and never be disappointed!

PREHEATING:

One of the most common mistakes when cooking with an air fryer is preheating! Basically, neglecting it! By preheating the appliance for a few minutes, you will achieve better results, as it ensures that the chamber will be at the desired temperature when you put the ingredients inside. Otherwise, cooking may be uneven and baking/cooking may take longer.

CROWDING THE BASKET:

Another common mistake is putting too many ingredients in the basket. If they are cramped, airflow will be obstructed and it will not be able to reach all sides of the food properly. To achieve crispy and evenly cooked food, you should make sure there is enough space for air circulation. If you have a device with a small basket or want to cook a large quantity, you can divide it into portions.

EXCESS OIL:

Air fryers became beloved and popular because they have the ability to cook with minimal oil. However, if you add too much oil, you will cancel out the whole philosophy of the appliance. A light spray or brushing with oil is usually enough to achieve the desired crispiness!

SHAKING:

In most recipes it is almost mandatory either to turn the food over or to shake the basket so the ingredients mix well. This way everything will bake and cook evenly, without any part of it burning. Most air fryers have a reminder halfway through the cooking time so you never forget it.

SPICES AND SEASONINGS:

Air fryers tend to enhance the flavors of the seasonings used in the food. It is a good idea to be generous with seasonings such as salt, pepper, herbs, and spices so that the flavors and aromas are transferred to the food!

CLEANING:

Obviously, like any appliance, you should make sure it is cleaned and maintained properly and regularly! Specifically for the air fryer, if it is not cleaned often, oil or food particles will remain on the heating element and in the chamber, causing them to burn and smell, which will obviously transfer to the food being cooked.
