Buying Guide for Shaving Machines
How to choose the right razor for you and your needs.
Why choose an electric shaver?
The electric shaver is a grooming device that allows you to shave easily, saving you time and without causing irritation, as would happen with a regular razor. For this reason, it is also suitable for sensitive skin and areas. Finally, depending on the attachments it may have, it gives you the ability to trim the hair as much as you want, without having to cut it off completely.
How to choose the right electric shaver for you?
In order to proceed with purchasing an electric shaver, you need to consider the needs you want to cover.
For example, do you want an electric shaver for the face or body, or maybe one that works for both? Do you want to shave daily and your skin is sensitive, or will the use be less frequent and the hairs grow in different directions? Will you need wet shaving? And of course, what is your budget?
Types of electric shavers
1. Rotary (Rotating heads)
They usually have three round heads that move independently. They are ideal if you have thick facial hair that grows in different directions. They adapt perfectly to the angles of the face (chin, neck).
They are quieter and do not require frequent blade replacement, but they do not offer such a close shave and may struggle with details such as sideburns or under the nose.
2. Foil (With mesh)
The blades are covered by a thin metal foil with holes. It is the best choice if you want the closest shave possible (like a razor) and if you have very sensitive skin, as it is gentler on the skin.
Power Supply & Battery
- Rechargeable: These are the most common. Most now use lithium batteries that charge quickly.
- Wired use: Attention! Many modern machines that are waterproof, for safety reasons, do not operate when plugged in.
Skroutz Tip: Look for machines with a "quick charge function" (Quick Charge). Usually, with 5 minutes of charging, they give you a full shave if you forgot it empty!
Wet or Dry Shaving?
Everyone does dry shaving. But if you like to use foam or gel for extra freshness, choose a shaver that says "Wet & Dry". These are also the easiest to clean, as you can simply rinse them under the tap.
Attachments & Convenience
- Trimmer: Many have a built-in or extra attachment for shaping your sideburns or mustache.
- Cleaning Base: Some expensive models come with a base that automatically cleans, disinfects, and lubricates the shaver. It makes things so much easier!
- Spare Parts: Don’t forget that the heads need to be replaced every 1.5 to 2 years to cut like new. Check their cost before you buy the shaver.
So, based on the above, you have a first idea of the razor you want to acquire, finally you should consider the following:
- Budget: It plays a basic role if you want to invest in a good razor machine and therefore, it is good to check its spare parts (price, how easily you can find them, etc.), or if you prefer a more economical solution that will meet your needs.
- Size / Weight: It may be something that you usually don't pay much attention to, but it should fit your handle. It should not be too heavy, and under no circumstances should its size hinder its easy use. The ergonomic handle will be a plus.
If you still use the classic razor, it's probably time to make a change that you will love!
