Smart ways to place a throw on your sofa
If you’re looking for smart ways to put a throw on your sofa, you’re in the right place. Whether it’s a throw for a corner sofa or a regular one, below you’ll see 7 ways to do it and protect your sofa from stains.
If you’re also one of those who have grown tired of cleaning their sofa every now and then, see below some smart ways you can protect it with a simple yet beautiful throw.
How do I put throws on a sofa?
The process of putting a throw on a sofa is simple and only requires choosing the ideal size, which will adequately cover your sofa. There are throws for a three-seater, two-seater, or corner sofa, even for armchairs or beds. You can match it with the color of your sofa or choose one in a completely different color palette to break up the monotony. Personally, I always also take the sofa cushions into account before choosing the ideal color, to make sure everything matches. The color of the living room rugs as well as the rest of the furniture also play their own role in choosing your throws. Here are some ideas for how you can put a throw on a sofa that may inspire you.
Casual Style
With the casual style, we want our throw to be loosely draped over the arm of the sofa or simply thrown in an irregular spread. To achieve this, you should fold one side of the throw and gently place it on one of the arms. Then, you can slightly open the edges that touch the sofa and make it look like a waterfall.
The same effect can be achieved if you spread it in the center of the sofa, leaving a slight tilt to the right or left. If it has thick fabric, try gathering it at one end and avoid folding it because it will be too bulky.
Elegant Style
The elegant style is theoretically more serious and reserved. Essentially, you want to lay it straight and usually in the center of the sofa. If you have a sophisticated living room, then this style fits better when you lay your throw.
Another option is to fold it in half or in quarters, depending on the size, and lay it on one of the two sides, like a stripe.
Modern Style
If you want your throw to give a more modern touch to your sofa, then you can lay it somewhat askew, with one corner sitting further away from the other. Alternatively, try combining two different throws in both color and fabric.
Winter Style
Choose a fleece throw to warm your body and soul. Spread it along the entire length of the sofa to ensure warmth for everyone. The cold days of winter will seem like a thing of the past if you combine your winter throw with velvet or suede cushions.
Island Style
When you hear about a throw in island style, you might think of your mom's doily, but that's not what I mean. As indelible as the value of the doily is in our hearts, unfortunately, it doesn't protect the sofa at all. Instead, I suggest a throw in any light shade you like, half neatly spread and half crumpled.
How to Place Throws on a Corner Sofa
Personally, when I place throws on a corner sofa, I try to cover the areas that get dirty more easily. Such areas might include the armrests, the seat, or the back cushions that are not removable. Covering the entire corner sofa with a throw is rare because you would need to find a very large throw or invest in buying two identical or different ones. However, if you are looking for an immediate solution, I have two for you.
Casual Draping
With one throw, try to cover at least half of the sofa. You can choose the corner where you sit more often and don't want to get dirty. Try to drape it more casually. That is, gather one corner of the throw and toss it over the back of the sofa, letting the other corner fall loosely over the armrest and your seat.
Full Coverage
If there are children or pets in the house, then I suggest getting two throws and draping them as you would a regular sofa. Cover one side with one throw and the other side with the other throw.
Extra tip: If you want, you can leave the back uncovered to reduce the intensity and the illusion of volume from your sofa.
In any case, a sofa throw will help keep your sofa clean and, of course, will greatly beautify the space. Your personal taste combined with a beautiful throw is the recipe that will highlight your living room.
