When do we choose Lithium, Copper, Silicone, or Marine grease?

Choosing the right grease is not just a matter of "so it won't squeak." Using the wrong type of lubricant can damage rubber seals, cause parts to seize due to high temperatures, or be completely washed away at the first contact with water.

1. Lithium Grease - The "All-Rounder" of Lubrication

Lithium grease is the king of general-purpose use. It offers excellent adhesion, resistance to moderate temperatures and high loads, while effectively protecting against metal-on-metal wear.

• Where it is used: wheel bearings, chains, hinges, sliding door tracks, agricultural machinery, shafts, and car suspension components.

• When to avoid it: In contact with rubber (O-rings) or plastics, as it can swell or gradually corrode them, and also in areas with extreme temperatures (above 150°C).

• For boats, trailers & the sea: Marine grease.

2. Copper Grease - For Extreme Temperatures & Seizing

Copper grease is not intended for fast-moving components (such as bearings), but works as an anti-seize and anti-corrosion base. It withstands extreme temperatures (often up to 1100 degrees Celsius and prevents metal threads from "seizing" due to heat or rust.

• Where it is used: Back of brake pads (to eliminate squeaking), spark plug threads, exhaust bolts, exhaust manifolds, wheel nuts.

• When to avoid it: Never apply it inside the brake caliper or on the slider pins, nor on aluminum circuits unless special compatibility is stated (risk of galvanic corrosion).

3. Silicone Grease - Friendly for Plastics & Rubber

If your application involves rubber, plastic, or water, silicone grease is the only safe choice. It is waterproof, does not dry out easily, does not corrode elastomers, and works exceptionally well as an electrical insulator (dielectric grease).

• Where it is used: Seals, rubber O-rings (e.g. in pool filters or hydraulics), brake caliper pins, spark plug wires, diving equipment, e-bike/bicycle mechanisms.

• When to avoid it: On metal surfaces with heavy loads and high metal-on-metal friction (it does not provide the required film strength like lithium grease).

4. Marine Grease: Ultimate Resistance to Salt & Water

Marine grease (usually calcium-based or calcium sulfonate complex) is specially designed not to wash out from saltwater or freshwater (water washout resistance) and to prevent the corrosive effects of salt.

• Where it is used: Boat trailer bearings (that are submerged in the sea), anchor winches, outboard steering cables, boat hinges, jet ski equipment.

• When to avoid it: In applications that require a very low-viscosity lubricant or in dry household environments where a simple lithium grease provides the same coverage at a lower cost.

• 400g Cartridge: The standard choice for professionals, workshops, and farmers. It fits directly into a manual or pneumatic grease gun.

• Tube / Jar: Suitable for DIYers who need a small amount and application with a brush or finger.
