What are vitamins?

Fat-Soluble Vitamins & Their Benefits

  • Vitamin A (retinol): It is essential for good vision function and contributes to maintaining skin health by promoting cell renewal and collagen production.
  • Vitamin D: It helps the body absorb calcium and phosphorus, which are necessary for maintaining the health of bones, teeth, and muscles. It also plays a significant role in the proper functioning of the immune system, reducing the risk of infections and inflammations. Vitamin D is produced by the skin through exposure to sunlight (ultraviolet B radiation) and can be found in certain foods and dietary supplements. It is distinguished in two main forms: vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), which, although performing the same basic function, come from different sources.
  • Vitamin D3: Vitamin D3, also known as cholecalciferol, is the most active form of vitamin D. It is vital for maintaining calcium homeostasis in the body and bone health, as it facilitates the absorption of calcium from the intestine and contributes to its reabsorption from the kidneys. D3 is also found in animal-derived foods, such as fatty fish (salmon, mackerel), fish oil, liver, and egg yolks. D3 is more potent than vitamin D2, as it increases vitamin D levels in the body more effectively and is retained longer in the blood.

* Both forms are generally referred to as "vitamin D," but D3 is generally considered more effective in increasing and maintaining vitamin D levels in the body.

  • Vitamin E: It has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and neuroprotective capabilities. It protects cells from oxidation and contributes, among other things, to the health of the skin and hair.
  • Vitamin K: It is one of the most essential fat-soluble vitamins and has been characterized as a necessary nutrient for blood clotting. It plays a crucial role in calcium metabolism, the main mineral found in bones and teeth. According to studies, individuals who consume large amounts of vitamin K through foods or dietary supplements have stronger bones and are less likely to suffer a bone fracture in their lifetime, even if they already had osteoporosis.
  • Combination of D3 and K2: The combination of these two vitamins is particularly effective, as they work together to ensure the proper management of calcium in the body. D3 helps in the absorption of calcium from the digestive system, while K2 directs it to the right places, such as the bones, and prevents calcium deposition in arteries and other soft tissues, where it can cause problems.
