Many programs represented four-digit years using only the last two digits, making the year 2000 indistinguishable from 1900. The inability of computer systems to correctly distinguish dates had the potential to disrupt global infrastructures for industries dependent on computers.

How to adopt it?

The 00s have made a strong comeback, as you’ve probably noticed in your Instagram feed, where you’ll find entire looks or at least influences in every brand.

The ugly shoes that ruled the 00s are back and are the hottest trend. 

Gen Z has worked wonders in styling tips and has given fresh life to low-rise pants, tube tops, sheer fabrics and plastic jewelry, vintage sneakers - sometimes colorful - and velour tracksuit sets like the ones that became a trend thanks to Mean Girls, are just some of the must-have items in a Gen Z wardrobe.

Tops

Y2K tops represent the aesthetics and spirituality of the '00s decade. With characteristic designs and colors that reflect the cultural modernization of the era, they are a stylistic element that has dynamically returned to the forefront of fashion.

They are distinguished by bright colors, graphic patterns, and futuristic designs that prevailed in the '00s. From bright fonts to reflective surfaces and logos, they exude a sense of joy and optimism for the future, incorporating the energy of the '00s into every new style.

Sheer fabrics, butterflies, and crop tops are a key part of a Y2K look. Inspired by another era, more cute and girlie, they exude romance, femininity, and a touch of sexiness. The preferred materials in this case are mainly velvet and ribbed fabric.

Bottoms

In the Y2K trend, pants and skirts are a part of fashion that seems to be making a strong comeback, highlighting the aesthetics and spirit of the '00s.

With bold features and designs that exude dynamism and romance, these pieces impress with their retro vibe and modern character.

Bold shades, impressive patterns, and the futuristic designs that prevailed in the '00s are making a return today. From wide, low-rise pants to tight denim skirts. Additionally, tracksuits - mainly with velvet lining - were and still are the must-have of the trend.

Shoes

Ugly shoes were all the rage in the 00s. Chunky sneakers, with very wide soles that add volume to the foot and provide a better, more stable stride, were at their peak in the 2000s.

Just a few years later, colorful designs on sneakers as well as all-white athletic shoes are back in the spotlight for a comfortable everyday style that blends perfectly with the new demands of fashion and completes the Y2K outfit.

Don’t forget that socks are always part of the overall look, especially in Y2K, where with chunky sneakers, the high socks that stand out and are visible should be white athletic or colorful... not just colorful, multicolored!

An integral part of any look is accessories. If we talk about which ones are key for this particular trend, we will definitely talk about chunky colorful resin rings, plastic jewelry in fluorescent shades such as lilac and peach, and of course metal mask sunglasses.

Inflatable and brightly colored bucket hats and large and bright necklaces, as well as impressive earrings with rhinestones or metallic details were very popular. 

Glowing makeup and shiny hair accessories completed the look, offering a sense of absolute romance and brightness.

Bags get their own section in this article. Having a special fondness for them, not only me but also the biggest fashion brands, they stand for functionality combined with the fashionable element dictated by each trend.

Shiny bags and metallic-looking bags have definitely been, and still are, the main accessory of a Y2K look, adding shine and style to every outfit. In general, baguette bags are at the top of the trends.

Giving the look a 2000s effect, vintage versions with rhinestones, large logos and sparkle bring back the 00s era.

Guess, Fendi, Prada, Juicy Couture are just some of the fashion brands bringing back their old versions today.
