Buying Guide for Serum

Buying Guide for Serum

What are the main features you should choose when buying a serum?

1. Skin type

What skin type do you have? Is it oily, dry, sensitive, or normal? Some serums are specially designed for the needs of certain skin types!

2. Ingredients

Each ingredient has its own beneficial properties for the skin. Let’s take a look at the main ones!

Vitamin C: Gives the skin radiance and evenness, and reduces discoloration.

Vitamin E: Moisturizes and soothes the skin, softens fine lines and scars.

Collagen: Gives firmness to the skin, helps with anti-aging, and reduces fine lines.

Retinol: Boosts cell renewal, contributes to skin firmness and regeneration. It is recommended that the first applications be at wider intervals, for example, 1 to 2 times a week.

Hyaluronic acid: Effectively reduces the appearance of unwanted wrinkles, deeply hydrates the skin, and revitalizes it.

Niacinamide: Visibly reduces enlarged pores, redness, fine lines, inflammation, as well as dull skin.

Caviar: Provides deep hydration to the cells, stimulates skin regeneration, has antioxidant properties, and tones the skin.

3. Skin needs

When looking for a serum, like any other product for your skin, always take its needs into account.

4. Facial area

There are specialized serums for each specific area. Simply choose the area you’re interested in from the relevant filter.

Eyelashes

When is the best time to apply serum?

This depends greatly on the main ingredient. For example, retinol should be applied at night, as sunlight can cause irritation and burns.

In general, apply it before moisturizer and after cleansing.

Have you never tried an ingredient before? Do the patch test!

The patch test is a test for possible skin allergies. Apply a small amount of serum to a small area and, after a few days, see whether it has caused any irritation. If not, you’re most likely fine!

If you are allergic to an ingredient, in addition to the main ingredient, check the exact characteristics of the serum.

In any case, before using any product, consult your dermatologist!

Don’t forget that often there may be differences in a product based on its overall features as well as its construction. Before deciding, read other users’ reviews too, so you can see their opinions and compare them with the use you want to make yourself!
