
CHrysi G. CHatzichristou
Chrysi (Sissy) G. Chatzichristou is a professor of school psychology in the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Philosophy, Pedagogy, and Psychology at the University of Athens and the director of the Center for Research and Applications of School Psychology. She completed her postgraduate studies in the USA at the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned her Master's and Advanced Studies Diploma in Developmental Psychology. She then obtained her Ph.D. in School and Counseling Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, where she also worked as a research associate. She has served as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow and research associate at the Max-Planck Institute for Human Development and Education in Berlin. She has worked in mental health centers and schools in the USA and Greece. Dr. Chatzichristou has been the Secretary of the Board of the International School Psychology Association and a board member of the Hellenic Psychological Society. She is the Coordinator of the School Psychology Division of the Hellenic Psychological Society and a member of numerous Greek, international, and American academic and research committees and scientific societies. Her research and writing focus on school psychology, child adaptation and support within the family and school, and counseling for educators and parents. She has also been involved in developing alternative models for providing school psychological services and, through the activities of the Center for Research and Applications of School Psychology, in designing and implementing primary and secondary prevention programs in schools and institutions in Greece and Cyprus. These include the "Mental Health and Learning Promotion Program: Social and Emotional Education in Schools," the "Adolescent Awareness and Sensitization Program on Interpersonal Relationships and Sexual Development" in collaboration with the Center for Sexual and Reproductive Health of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the "Intercultural Program: The Olympic Spirit through the Voice of Children" in collaboration with the International School Psychology Association, the "Psychosocial Support and Counseling Intervention Program for Repatriated and Foreign Students," the "Psychological Support Program in the School Environment after a Crisis," the "Support Program for Single-Parent Families," and "Tender Little Feather" as part of a program supporting children with special needs in the family and school, among others. Many of her studies have been published in reputable Greek and international scientific journals and books. She has published several books.
