Ioannis CH. Iakovidis

Ioannis Ch. Iakovidis was born in Tanzania in 1956 and hails from the occupied Lapithos in the Kyrenia district. He lived in Cyprus from 1962 to 1976 and graduated from the (six-year) Pancyprian Gymnasium for Boys in Kykkos. After completing his military service (1974-1976), he studied in the Department of Philology at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Athens (1980) with a scholarship from the State Scholarships Foundation of Greece, in the History Department of Athens (1984), and in the Department of Political Science and International Studies at Panteion University (1996). He earned his master's degree in 2000 from the Department of Sociology at Panteion, as well as his Ph.D. with distinction (2006). He also holds a Diploma in Journalism (1981) from a private school in Nicosia, where the late Philologist and Headmaster Konstantinos A. Yiallourides had also taught. He served as a permanent teacher at the Chora Messinias Lyceum (1983-1988) and since then at the 1st General Lyceum of Acharnes. Currently (2011), he is serving as a School Counselor for Philologists in the Directorate of Secondary Education of Athens B. For many years, he has collaborated scientifically with Panteion University, mainly with professors Neoklis Sarris, Thanasis Diamantopoulos, Christodoulos K. Yiallourides, Gerasimos Karabelias, and Marios Evriviades on issues related to Hellenism in the "East as we know it" and the Diaspora, Greek political life in the 20th century, Cold War Europe, and Cultural Diplomacy. His work is also supported by professors Efthymios Soulogiannis, Kleomenis Koutsoukis, Nikolaos Ouzounoglou, and Konstantinos Patelos. He has attended and participated with presentations in several scientific conferences and seminars. The summary of his doctoral dissertation was published in 2007 by the New Circle of Constantinopolitans and the Kastritseio Museum. The same association (New Circle) also published his article "The Mobilization of 20 Non-Muslim Age Groups in Turkey" in 2007. Another work of his is "Memories of Constantinople, Egypt, Asia Minor, and Pontus. Settlement in Greece (mainly the second half of the 20th century)." Preface by emeritus professor Neoklis Sarris, published by "Tsoukatos," 2010. He also curated the selection of scientific texts, as student note folders, under the titles "Hellenism of the Diaspora" (S IAK, 2009), "Modern Greek Identity. Its relation to Cultural Diplomacy in the contemporary globalized society." Lecturer: Professor Christodoulos K. Yiallourides, Department of Communication, Media, and Culture, Postgraduate, Panteion University, 2009, and "National Identity and Hellenism of the Diaspora." Lecturer: Gerasimos Karabelias, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology, Panteion University, 2010. He has also collaborated with the Foundation of the Hellenic World by authoring an entry in the electronic "Encyclopedia of the Hellenic World," FHW and Researchers SA, 2008, on "Constantinopolitan Refugees and Associations in Greece." He is a member of various associations, including the Philological Association "Parnassos," the "Andreas Lendakis" Foundation for Culture and Education, and the Historical and Folklore Society of Acharnes (I.L.E.A).
