Artemis Skoumpourdi

Artemis Skoubourdi was born in Kalymnos in 1953 and grew up in Athens. She studied in Athens (tour guide) and Madrid (art historian). In 1982, she established the "Free Guided Tours" initiative in collaboration with the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Athens and the Tour Guides Association as a volunteer, and in 2012, she reinstated the initiative on her own initiative after its discontinuation. Simultaneously, she engages in the historical and folklore study of old Athens. She teaches Athenian subjects at the School of Tour Guides and gives related lectures at cultural associations. Since 1987, she has curated and presented radio and television programs on archaeological content, as well as historical and folklore programs under the title "Athens, a Magical City" (Athens 9.84, Ant1, Mega). She works as a scientific consultant on television programs (ERT) concerning historical and folklore topics about Athens. She is an elected board member of the National Historical Museum, the Friends of the Benaki Museum, the Cultural Foundation "Kleovoulos the Lindian," and an honorary member of the Friends of the Archaeological Museum, the Friends of the City of Athens Museum Vouros-Eutaxias, and the Association of Plaka Residents and Friends. She writes about Athens in newspapers and magazines. She guides, studies, researches, writes, and has a lifelong love for the magical city, Athens.
